DILI – tais.edu.tl || The School of Education (SOE) of Mountain View College (MVC), in collaboration with Timor-Leste Adventist International School (TAIS) and the Timor-Leste Mission of the Seventh-day Adventists, conducted a Basic Teaching Certificate Program at TAIS in Dili, Timor-Leste, from August 4 to 9, 2025.
The program was facilitated by Dr. Carthy Joy T. Aguillon, Program Head of the Bachelor of Secondary Education; Dr. Flordelys S. Montecastro, Program Head of the Bachelor of Elementary Education; and Dr. Liel Gem V. Pondara, Principal of the MVC Academy Department.
A total of 52 teachers and assistant teachers participated in the certification program, which was designed to meet the professional development mandate of the Timor-Leste Ministry of Education. The five-day training offered a comprehensive, practical, and values-based approach to teaching, covering key areas such as foundational pedagogy, lesson planning, assessment strategies, instructional materials development, classroom management, and the integration of spiritual and ethical values.
Anchored in the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church—to call all people to become disciples of Jesus Christ, proclaim the everlasting gospel, and prepare the world for His soon return—the program emphasized Christ-centered education. Educators were encouraged to embody the principles of Christ-like living, teaching, and serving. Guided by biblical values and empowered by the Holy Spirit, participants were equipped not only to deliver academic content but also to nurture holistic development, integrating faith and learning in their educational practice.
To complete the certification, participants engaged in a series of activities including attendance in training sessions, lesson plan writing, microteaching demonstrations, and the submission of a reflective portfolio showcasing their outputs.
